Maybe a week ago, somebody on Jalopnik or here asked what our greatest automotive blunder was, and mine was about spending way too much money on a 1990 Daytona Shelby. So needless to say I’ve been looking at 80s-90s turbo Dodges ever since.

Kinja'd!!!

I found this really pretty good looking 87 Shelby Charger for sale nearby for $600. It doesn’t run, but man is that body in good shape, and 2.2s are dead simple. This is a 5 speed 146hp non-intercooled car...easy enough to swap a Turbo 2 engine in.

I asked for pictures of the interior, I'll be interested to see if it's as clean as the outside. But for $400-500, I wouldn't mind putting it out behind my house for a few months until I get to it.

I’d love to take a ride in it but I wouldn’t wanna own it.

What else would slot under the hood with minimal fuss? Would a 4G63 work (considering Chrysler’s close relationship with Mitsubishi through the ‘70s,’ 80s, and ‘90s) ?

$600? I probably would already own it if it were nearby. Provided the floors underbody weren’t dust.

A TBI roller cam, Caravan TB, TII conversion, 555 swap, Shelby computer, AFPR and a G valve would put that thing deep in the 13 second range. Might even tickle the 12s.

The shop I take my cars to has one in gold that’s been abandoned by the previous owner.

I have no money, time, space, tools, or know-how, but every time I see it I start calculating if any of my credit cards could absorb w/e they eventually want for it when the mechanic’s lien goes through...

I’m sure it would fit, but the mounts are probably different...I can’t think of anything that used the 2.2 and the 4G63. Unless the 4G63 and the Mitsubishi 2.6 share the same mounts, since for some reason I seem to think you could get a Caravan with a 2.6. I could totally be imagining that though.

Looks like it has some rust inside the front left whee well, but no mention of the floors. I’ve kept my Mopar 2.2/2.5 performance book all these years, it would be cool to have a reason to open that again.

I still have that book somewhere from my “world’s fastest K-car” build back in college. Bought an 87 Reliant LE from the original owner as a winter rat because i didn’t want to drive my 94 Shadow ES V6 in Buffalo winters. Kept it NA, but went with forged pistons, shaved head with porting and valve job, mopar performance 1-tooth shorter timing belt, purple cam, custom header, ported intake, 5 speed conversion. used to embarrass fox body mustangs with it. of course, after all that, it wasn’t a good winter beater any more, so i sold it and bought an S10. The kid I sold it to didn’t believe me that he had to run 93 octane in it and blew it up within 2 weeks.
